Network Support Specialist

  Job Summary:
OSHEAN is seeking a Network Support Specialist to assist with network deployments,
troubleshooting, and support for member organizations throughout Rhode Island. This role
is primarily field-based and includes hands-on work with Cisco and Fortinet equipment in
schools, municipalities, healthcare organizations, and other nonprofit environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for members via in-person visits, phone,
email, and ticketing systems.
• Assist with installation, replacement, staging, and deployment of network equipment.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to routers, switches, firewalls, and other
network devices.
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches, and Fortinet
firewalls.
• Perform remote and onsite diagnostics of customer premises equipment (CPE).
• Coordinate and participate in maintenance windows and equipment cutovers.
• Escalate complex issues to Tier 3 or Network Engineering teams as needed, ensuring
detailed documentation.
• Maintain accurate documentation, ticket updates, and deployment records.
• Work closely with engineering teams, and Member Services staff to ensure seamless
communication and service delivery.
• Communicate technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical users.

Required Skills & Experience
• 0–2 years of experience in a technical support, IT support, or network technician role
preferred.
• Basic understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT,
and switching/routing concepts.
• Exposure to or familiarity with Cisco and Fortinet technologies preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with ticketing systems and remote support tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic understanding of copper and fiber cabling practices is a plus.
• Experience with network monitoring tools is a plus.
• Cisco certification (CCNA or similar) is a plus but not required.
• Ability to work independently and professionally in field environments.

Work Environment
• Primarily field-based throughout Rhode Island with occasional office work.
• Fast-paced, customer-facing environment supporting schools, municipalities,
healthcare organizations, and nonprofits.
• Travel to member/customer sites is required.
• Occasional early morning, evening, and scheduled maintenance work may be required.
• Ability to lift and transport network equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in wiring closets, data centers, and telecom environments.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
